Acquiring balance, reflex and coordination skills in skiing develops over time. In the trainings we provide at Erciyes Ski Center, we teach you step by step how to use your skis correctly, how to stop, slow down, make right and left turns on the slopes. In this way, your joints and muscles get used to it and you learn to balance your body position with the right techniques. You will gain self-confidence in a short time and enjoy the pleasure of skiing with performance in every winter season.
Ski Dominance and Technical Development
Once learned, skiing and snowboarding techniques are never forgotten. Every move you learn is embedded in muscle memory. Just like driving, cycling or swimming, you will easily remember these reflexes even after many years. Each winter season, you can improve what you have learned and ski with more confidence and control.
Basic Rules for Safe Skiing on Ski Slopes
Skiing safely on the slopes requires not only technical skill but also attention and discipline. For the safety of yourself and other skiers, it is important to pay attention to the following points when skiing and snowboarding.
Equipment Control and Transportation
Always check your equipment before skiing or snowboarding. Make sure your bindings, poles and shoes are secure. When carrying your skis, hold them by the bindings; putting them on your shoulder can damage your neck and head. Make sure your clothing, helmet, snow goggles and gloves are complete.
Cell Phone Safety
Cell phones are likely to get lost on the slopes. Secure your phone to your ski jacket with a short rubber band or string. This prevents your phone from falling out during a fall or a call.
Runway and Slope Information
Pay attention to slope and elevation differences on the ski slopes. If you do not know the structure of the slope, ask the chairlift, gondola or ski lift staff. Get help from the piste safety team or JAK (Gendarmerie Search and Rescue) officers. Examine the piste map before skiing and choose pistes suitable for your level.
Reviewing the Runway Map and Getting Information
Obtain piste maps from the information desk at the ski resort or hotel reception. Read the symbols on the map and ask the staff in charge about the points you do not understand. Learning to read the piste map is very important for safe skiing.
Phone Use and Distractions
Do not talk on the phone while skiing on the piste. In case of emergency, make a call while standing in a safe area where there are no skiers. Keep your eyes and body oriented in the direction of the skiing to avoid distractions.
Maintain Attention and Balance
When skiing, focus on the direction ahead instead of looking left and right. This helps you keep your balance and reduces the risk of colliding with skiers around you.
Speed Control in Crowded Areas
Avoid skating fast in areas where the pistes are busy. Speed control is very important for your safety and the safety of those around you. Beginner skiers should ski at a pace appropriate to their skill level.
Pay Attention to Visibility Conditions
In foggy, heavy snow or stormy weather, ski at a distance where you can see at least 10 meters ahead. Orient yourself with reference to the gondola, chairlift and chairlift poles. Follow the voice announcements and music broadcasts on the pistes so that you can ski safely without moving away from the piste.
Standing or Sitting on the Runway is Dangerous
Stopping to chat or sit on ski and snowboard slopes can cause accidents. If you want to rest, choose safe areas off the slopes.
Correct Use in Mechanical Plants
At the entrance to the chairlift, gondola and ski lift, place your tickets in the zippered pocket on your jacket sleeve. When passing through the turnstiles, your ticket will be read by the system without the need to remove it.
What to Do in Emergency Situations
If you become unable to skate on the piste or encounter a problem, identify your location and call 155. Piste security teams will arrive at your location as soon as possible.
Choosing a Suitable Runway
When skiing, prefer pistes that are flat and compacted with snow crushers (Sinoturak). It is dangerous to ski on deep snow, icy ground or potholed areas. Such areas are risky for inexperienced skiers.
Heating, Water Consumption and Safety Equipment
Always do warm-up exercises before skiing. This prepares your muscles and joints for the sport. Drink enough water throughout the day to keep your body balanced. Always wear your helmet; this is the most basic safety rule of skiing.
Clothing and Equipment Selection
When skiing, wear thermal underwear, turtlenecks, fleece jackets, ski pants, snow goggles and snow gloves. These clothes keep your body warm and increase your mobility.
